I have the original LV-103 from 1985, not the "U" version from 1986-on. I have always wanted one of these units because of its tubes in the design and the smooth sound these amps had. I found this one on Ebay for 5 US. In 1984 Luxman stunned everyone by introducing a mass produced tube-MOSFET hybrid integrated amplifer, into a completely solid state dominated world of mainstream audio - the LV-103 [1st one was the LV-104?]. It was then followed with a tube hybrid CD player, the D-105. Hi, just purchased a Luxman LV-103 tube/ss integrated amp. Late 80's or early 90's vintage. Love the sound, it uses two tubes in the preamp stage. Very detailed sound, more like tube amp than solid state. Anyone else have a Luxman hybrid? I'm real happy about it!ALPINE/LUXMAN LV-103u. Everything by Luxman is worth ! More seriously, Luxman had their ups and downs but they are a truly legit, TOTL manufacturer. I'm looking to purchase my first Integrated Amplifier and have been looking at used Harmon Kardon, NAD, Sansui, Pioneer, ect. amps (less than 0 price range) and came across a Luxman Hybrid LV-103. I've read some generally favourable reviews, however, a common theme seems to be that it's lacking in bass response.
I got my Luxman LV-103 about 2 months ago, did some clean up, replaced the tubes and it sounds amazing, even without a recap, which will be done soon. Instrument separation, deep soundstage and insanely clean noise floor even with very low impedance headphones continuously blow my mind..
